GARDAI at Henry Street are investigating a shooting that occured in the Michael Street area of Limerick city on Sunday night. It is understood that a man in his thirties was the intended target after a lone gunman got out of a parked car and began shooting.
The intended target, recently released from prison, was walking on Michael Street at 9.30pm on Sunday night when the gunman approached him. During the incident, a number of shots were fired but the man escaped when he fled to houses in the vicinity.
Gardai were carrying out a technical examination of the area, reviewing CCTV footage and the discharged bullets were sent for ballistic and forensic reports to be furnished to assist in the investigation. Henry Street gardai are keeping an “open mind” on the incident but believe that the shooting is connected to gang related feuding.
