Det Sgt Derek Clancy told the court that he arrested, charged and cautioned the accused at 7.42pm on Monday March 1.

Coughlan was brought to and from the court under the armed escort of members of the Regional Support Unit.

The judge noted that as the charge before the court was murder, any application for bail would have to be made to the high court and the state sought that the accused be remanded in custody. Coughlan was granted free legal aid as the court heard the accused was unemployed.
