Harrowing experience for young woman

GARDAI have issued a warning to the public to be particularly vigilant when walking at night, after a female had the harrowing experience of been followed into her city apartment.

The young woman had her mobile phone snatched from her, as well as a sum of money, as she returned home from work during the early hours of February 15.

The victim had finished working in a nightclub at around 2am and walked up Henry Street to Mount Kenneth Place, where she resides.

As she was going in the door of her apartment block, a male approached her and followed her into the building.

He took her bag containing a mobile phone and some cash.

CCTV footage of the culprit has been retrieved as he followed the woman into the building.

He is described as around 35 to 40 years old, of thin build, with a fresh scar on the left side of his face, which was still bleeding. The victim recalled that he had an Irish accent.

“This incident again highlights the dangers of walking home in the early hours of the morning on your own, especially females and those who have to work late hours. I feel that employers have a role to play to ensure that no staff have to walk to their place of residence in the early hours of the morning”, said sergeant Liam Sheahan.
