In the early years of the GAA Sean Og Hanley captained Limerick to their first All Ireland Hurling title success. He was honoured last weekend by Limerick Board officers who laid a wreath at his graveside in London. The timing was ironic to say the least as his native club was Blackrock and on this Saturday they will look to claim the All Ireland Junior Hurling title.
Standing in their way are the senior champions of Tyrone who will be no easy opponents. However this Blackrock side have proven their strength so far in this remarkable run that they have gone on since claiming the County title. Their game against the Tipperary Champions was close and their Munster Final against Fermoy was yet again right down to the wire. In fact the easiest game that they had in terms of the score line was their semi final win over Kilkenny’s Black and Whites.
Their winning performances have been mainly due to their efforts in the second halves of games. “The Rockies” will be hoping that they can play for a full 60 minutes on Saturday night. They have the mental strength to do it but their performance needs to be upped a level for the full 60 minutes. Not only will we have the people of Ardpatrick and Kilfinane heading to Croke Park but the people of Limerick will unite for what we hope will be an historic night. For those that cant make it to Dublin, Limerick’s Live 95FM will have full live commentary with build up beginning at 17.30 in association with Sheehy’s Centra Kilfinane.
