THE distraught family of Aengus “Gussie” Shanahan, aged 20, who vanished off the streets of Limerick exactly 10 years ago, are appealing to the public to come forward with information.
Parents Bob and Nancy, who reside in Caherdavin, are desperate after all of this time to learn the fate of their youngest child who was last seen on Joseph Street, Limerick at 10.30pm on Thursday, February 11, in 2000.
Nancy said: “Nothing can be as bad as not knowing what happened to my son. I can’t grieve. I can’t move. My life has been a daily torment for the past decade”.
The Shanahan family have distributed posters, conducting searches and visited homeless shelters throughout Ireland in search of their son.
Said Bob, prominent in GAA and greyhound circles: “If anyone can end this nightmare for my family, I would be forever grateful”.
School teacher Nancy, who suffered a stress-related stroke 10 years ago, said: “I am sure he’d have rung me if he was alive. I believe he may have come to harm and I wonder did he suffer? Was he tortured? Just please tell me where he is. tell me what happened to him”.
