THREE Irish airports are on notice of shut down from 2pm and 6pm on Wednesday. The action follows the suspending of 15 air traffic controllers for failing to co-operate with new technology.
However, the Irish Aviation Authority is calling on air traffic controllers at Shannon, Cork and Dublin airports to call off their planned industrial action.
Since the beginning of the year, IMPACT has been instructing controllers not to cooperate with the three new projects.
The union has also been in dispute with the IAA over pay and pension issues.
The situation escalated when the IAA suspended without pay five controllers in Shannon and ten in Dublin, with further suspensions expected.
The Airport Authority has said that intending passengers should contact individual airlines regarding tomorrow’s planned work stoppage by air traffic controllers.
Defence Minister Willie O’Dea has said he is disappointed with the air traffic controllers’ decision, saying it would clog up and choke the system.
