VOTE for Limerick Students in the Doodle 4 Google competition at www.google.ie/doodle4google – Voting closes February 1
THREE students from Co. Limerick are on tenterhooks this week after receiving news that they are in with a chance to win the national Doodle 4 Google competition. Everyone in Limerick is now being urged to log on to www.google.ie/doodle4google and vote for the students and their doodles to bring the Doodle 4 Google crown to Limerick.
Colin Doherty (5th year) and Edward Griffin (5th year) from St Munchin’s College and Lucy McLoughlin (1st year) from Gaelcholaiste Luimnigh are among 80 regional finalists in with a chance of winning the competition.
The big vote opened this week until February 1 and the 4 doodles (one from each group) receiving the most public votes will go forward to the final where Google’s Chief Webmaster and Graphic Designer Michael Lopez will select the overall winner. The winning doodle will feature on the Google homepage where it will be seen by millions of internet users and the winner’s school will receive a €10,000 technology grant.
The Doodle 4 Google competition is open to all primary and secondary schools in the Republic of Ireland and this year students were asked to create a doodle on the theme ‘My Future’.
Alice Mansergh, Head of EMEA Customer Marketing, Google Ireland said, “Millions of people view the Google homepage every day and there is a chance that the doodle on 3rd March could be the work of one young Limerick artist if the public go online in support of Lucy, Edward and Colin.”
“We are delighted with level of the entries in this year’s competition and selecting the 80 finalists was no easy task considering the level of creativity and talent displayed by Irish students. I want to congratulate all finalists on reaching this stage of the competition. We are now calling on the public in Limerick to visit the Doodle 4 Google website and show their support for their local students and schools by voting for Lucy, Edward and Colin.”
