Bail granted to motorist pursued in Ballinacurra area

A motorist charged with reckless driving in Limerick City on January 5 last, was granted bail subject to the approval of a €1000 cash lodgement and also garda approval of an independent surety.

James McDonagh was charged following a garda pursuit of a red Mondeo he was driving, which mounted the footpath and drove against the flow of oncoming traffic during the recent spell of bad weather.

Inspector Seamus Ruane said the gardai approved the address that McDonagh would reside at while on bail, and that a condition of signing on three times at a Dublin station be fulfilled.

McDonagh is charged with three counts dangerous driving at Punches Cross, Ballinacurra Road and Lifford Gardens, on the date in question.

It is alleged that the gardai followed in pursuit of a Northern Ireland registered red Ford Mondeo when it was observed leaving the Ballinacurra area at high speed.

The accused made his escape from the car, but was later arrested and detained when found hiding in the front garden of a house. He was in possession of the car keys for the red Mondeo.

Inspector Ruane noted that the accused is to reside at an address in Mulhuddart, Dublin 15, and to sign on at Blanchardstown Garda Station three times a week.  The case was adjourned for one week, with bail granted subject to the conditions.
