Accused spat and hurled abuse at judge

A 32-year-old man spat at a Limerick District Court judge and then hurled abuse by swearing and shouting obscene profanities while standing in the dock charged with a number of public order offences including trespass.  Declan Kelly, with an address of 7 Crecora Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston, was in court following his arrest on foot of a warrant and when he took to the dock, spat at the judge and shouted a hurl of abuse towards the gardai and the judiciary when asked if he had legal representation.

Gardai and members of the prison service restrained the accused, who was charged with trespass and 11 counts of public order at Brother Russell Home on November 17 last.

After the prolonged outburst, Kelly was dragged to the holding cells and the case continued in his absence.

The state sought an adjournment until December 30 next.
