The winter programme will operate on a pilot basis to coincide with major events such as Georgian Christmas Market, shopping and rugby games.

Questions and answers in City Hall

by Marie Hobbins

A SPECIAL meeting will take place in City Hall next week at which Mungret Irish Cement will inform Limerick City Council executives and elected members of its plan to build a facility that will convert waste to oil.

Following the Limerick Post’s exclusive report on the issue two weeks ago, concern was voiced by the chairman of the council’s Environmental Strategic Policy Committee, Cllr John Gilligan, that planning permission had been granted by Limerick County Council to an application from the company to develop the project.

Meantime, it has also been confirmed that Waterways Ireland, which has responsibility for all of the country’s inland waterways, will also visit City Hall next week to discuss the Park Canal.

Over the past year, various reports have been carried in this newspaper detailing the problems that have arisen, particularly in relation to stagnation on the canal, which despite being restored at a cost of almost two million euro two years ago, is blighted by stagnation caused by blocked flow in certain areas of the canal.

UPWARDS of 26% of Irish businesses have experienced fraud in the last 12 months, according to a new survey. Ninety-one firms were interviewed.

While the percentage of Irish businesses reporting incidences of fraud was slightly below the global average of 30%, the survey found that fraud is proving more costly to Irish businesses than their European counterparts.
