Frank tells it as it is in TG4 documentary

THE Limerickman behind the big yellow “JOHN 3:7” sign at Croke Park and at other GAA matches, and who dedicates his life to spreading his message, is to be featured on a TG4 documentary on Sunday, November 1, at 9-30, with a repeat the following Tuesday at 8pm

Castletroy-based Frank Hogan, born in High Street, where his family had a successful business, and known to all and sundry as John, has been dedicated to spreading the message of JOHN 3:7 to all sports fans, particularly GAA fans throughout Ireland for 21 years.

Frank has had a varied life – from the high of running a highly successful tailoring firm in Limerick serving the great and the good from the world of show business to devastation in his personal life. He found God and set about bringing the message to others through his distinctive hoarding display. He is sometimes derided and mocked but he is also held in great affection.

In this programme, we will find out why he has given up a huge portion of his life to spread his message of God, what he hopes to achieve as a result of this dedication and of course, the questions that he’s most asked; where does he get all his tickets?

Frank has a myriad of stories to tell regarding the people of Ireland and how they react to him.  He has been verbally abused, his sign stolen, he has been offered money in exchange for his sign, and he has also been the focus of many tourist photographs in his role as a minor celebrity.

This is the story of Frank Hogan, one of Ireland’s most televised figures – he’s the man standing behind the goal at most big sports events, holding a big yellow board.

In sunshine and in rain, he stands proud with his sign exhorting us to read the Gospel. He is an institution but this moving profile tells the human story behind the legend.
