Messiah J & The Expert will play Dolans on Thursday October 1. They have won Best Dance Act in the Hot Press Readers Poll several times, as well as being twice nominated for both the Meteor Awards and Choice Music Prize. Steve Lamacq has been a long-time champion of the band, personally paying for them to come over for a session for BBC1. MJ’s new album, “From The Word Go” is effectively a greatest hits album consisting of brand new material. Along with the Choice Prize and Meteor nominations the album was voted ‘Best Album of 2008’ in the public vote on entertainment.ie
Amnesia Comes Easily is a reggae-laced gem on which Messiah J and guest vocalist Joanne Daly unravel the beauty of true ‘warts-n-all’ friendship trading couplet for couplet over The Expert’s concoction of haunting organs, snapping drums and deliciously dubby guitars.
Geography is high octane musical tornado which features the perfectly locked harmonies of Delorentos, along with swooping strings, crashing drums, horn blares, raw-red honest lyrics and a chorus that refuses to leave the memory.
Gerard McDonnell Memorial Night
ON Saturday October 3, Dolans Warehouse are hosting a Gerard McDonnell Memorial Night. The Fund provides training in first aid and safe climbing technique for high altitude porters in the Karakorum. On August 1, 2008, Gerard summited K2 and made mountaineering history as the first Irish person to stand on the summit. The next morning, he risked his life to rescue three climbers stranded above 8000 meters. Upon descent, Gerard and the men he saved were lost in an avalanche. Those who knew Gerard understand he could never walk away from anyone who needed help.
To honor his spirit, The Gerard McDonnell Memorial Fund was established to assist the children of those Pakistani and Nepalese climbers who also lost their lives on K2 in 2008: Jehan Baig, Karim Meherban, Jumik Bhote and Pasang Bhote.
The Fund will sponsor these children throughout their childhood years, helping with their education and medical care. The Mountain Fund staff is 100 per cent volunteer, and there are no deductions for overhead. Your donation goes directly to the children.
The Gerard McDonnell Memorial Fund also partners with a local climbing school in Pakistan and helps train high altitude porters in safe climbing technique and first aid.
