AFTER a busy year of concerts in America and Ireland, operas in prisons and festivals at sea, baritone Nyle Wolfe will appear at Dolan’s upstairs, a favourite music venue.
2009 is the year that saw his second album Home Ground provide an accessible platform for this velvety voiced looker.
Wolfe left a thriving international career in Germany to rear his young family in County Limerick and risk parallel success from this rural Irish base. So far, so good.
Nyle Wolfe’s local profile, as opposed to national and the American, was heightened in April at Éigse Michael Hartnett and in being soloist to Limerick Choral Union’s Carmina Burana. He also sang at the relaunching of Cork Opera House following its 12mn euro facelift for President McAleese and more.
Sunday October 4, upstairs in Dolan’s, the 8pm intimate gig is titled Songs, Chanson, Ballads and Balls. The mellow weekend night provides a chance to hear his reworking of classics like La Mer and Hard Times. There’s a romance and elegance to the programme with songs such as Black is the Colour, Lili Marlene and “bold and exciting musical arrangements” of classics, each telling a story. Wolfe’s application and interpretation is focused on a tender reading of these enduring love stories.
