“SADDENED, very saddened,” said Limerick businessman Vincent Power, this week, when asked about his reaction to the sudden death of king of pop Michael Jackson.
Power, a former journalist with the Irish Examiner Group, was the only reporter to have interviewed Jackson during his 1988 concerts at Pairc Ui Chaoimh, Cork.
“I had followed the tour to London where I struck up a friendship with Jackson’s manager when staying at the Mayfair Hotel, and it was he who arranged the Cork interview for me.
“I spent about 20 minutes with Jackson and was privileged to have gained access to his dressingroom. He was very friendly and spoke freely with me in a one-to-one situation”.
A total of 120,000 fans attended two sell-out concerts in Cork.
