Hugh Campbell, founder of the Hugh Campbell Hair Group in Limerick, entered the Hairdressing Hall of Leaders on Sunday night when he was named an ICON of Irish Hairdressing.
The celebrations took place during a special Irish Hairdressers Federation awards event at the Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin, on Sunday June 14 last. It was a night of glamour and excitement for the hundreds who participated in the events. Among those attending were some of the most talented hairdressers in the country.
In his acceptance speech Hugh told this prestigious gathering: “Whatever negatives’ you may read in the media, Limerick is a fantastic city, the fashion capital of the mid west, and I am proud to be part of it.” Hugh went on to pay a special tribute to the loyalty and talent of all his staff past and present who have helped build the salon group. On the night Hugh spoke warmly of the groups clients stating: “To all our clients, from Limerick and all over Munster who have supported us faithfully over the last 30 years I thank you most sincerely.”
Hugh was selected because he has made a valuable contribution to shaping the industry. During the last 30 years his visionary concept of hairdressing guided the course of Irish hairdressing history. Hugh joins an elite group of hairdressers who have been named an ICON of Irish Hairdressing over the years. Other icons include Frank Hession, Peter and Mark Keaveney, David Marshall, Robert Chamber, Peter Munton, Maura Clarke, Sean Wright, Maeve O’Healy-Harte, Brendan Roche and Paddy Donnellan. When asked about receiving the award Hugh said: “I am proud and honoured to join this group of hairdressers all of whom have contributed to making the Irish Hairdressing industry a dynamic and internationally recognised creative force.”
