TRINITY Rooms plays hot on these long summer nights with an internationally rated act booked for Sunday June 7.
Pat Mahoney is master of the disco mix. His musical forays into mirrorball grooves have seen him play New York, London and other capitals. He fills the most demanding floors with disco punkyjive sounds and often teams with LCD Soundsystem/ DFA’s James Murphy. Whatever, wherever, it works. He plays on turntables and mixes with a Bozak, using an audio programme called Logic to make beautiful, edgy music from old disco classics by Chic, Was (not Was), Lenny Williams and Junior Byron.
Joe Clarke of Trinity Rooms has Pat booked for The Clubhouse on Sunday 7 and there is limited availability. Tickets are selling not just at Bank Place but from Empire Music and Ticketmaster too. 9pm doors for what is going to be tight fit at The Clubhouse, which is launching a seasonal FREE late bar that same night
Pat Mahoney, first and last the drummer who came to notice with Les Savy Fav more than decade ago, gets straight to core of disco’s heartland. His work digs into “New York musical roots to give us a blend of seminal disco, rare grooves, new garage and edgy tech-infused funk”.
He’s the man who put together the 2007 Fabric’s compilation release with LCD Soundsystem’s pal Murphy. Pat the drummer-turned-spin-king has done well to read the recent rise and rise of disco. His work combines obscure rare tracks, fringe trims and a modern take on familiar works. His work is imaginative and results in compilations born of his musicianship and spontaneous love of the genre.
Expect a sophisticated sound and a feel-good night. Who said the last days of disco were done?
Paul Webb, stalwart of Trinity Rooms dancefloor scenes, hooked up with Pat at the Sonar Festival in Barcelona, 2008. He’s the man who can be credited with importing Mahoney to Limerick and we recommend you tune into Paul’s Balance programme on Spin Southwest this Friday for his exclusive interview with Pat. Paul will also do warm up duty for this ‘new kid in town’ for whom Clubhouse tickets are premium.
Joe Clarke is all aglow about his Sunday 7 coup: “This very special DJ Set by a true dance-punk luminary will be a delightful nod to the past, present and future. The show kicks off from 8pm this Sunday 7 and will be the perfect launch pad for The Clubhouse at Trinity Room’s free late bar which will be open throughout the Summer”.
