LAST Friday night, hundreds of the city’s young and fashionable were drawn by the allure of beauty and turned up to what the promoters described as “the city’s most glamourous event of the year”.
Finalists from all over the region were competing for the Miss Spin South West title at Limerick’s Trinity Rooms.
The judges had a difficult task choosing from so many deserving contestants, but a decision was made and UL student Caitriona Hoy from Fr Russell Road was crowned the victor. She is the third generation in her family to have been selected to enter the Miss Ireland Competition.
In 1962, the 19-year-old’s grandmother Ann O’Halloran from Marian Drive represented Limerick in The Miss Ireland finals. In 1990 her aunt and then model with the Celia Holman-Lee agency Anne O’Halloran led the banner for the city when she took the Miss Limerick tiara in that year.
Speaking to the Limerick Post Caitriona’s aunt spoke of her joy at Caitriona’s win. “I am trilled and very proud of my beautiful niece and wish her well in the beauty pageant.”
Caitriona will now go forward with the chance to be crowned Miss Ireland Universe 2009 in the national finals on June 26.
