Southerly wind from Indian subcontinent

TANJORE Palace is a dynamic new Indian restaurant in town, based over The Glen Tavern on Lower Glentworth Street. Owned and run by a team of knowledgeable restaurateurs, the focus of this Asian venue is to bring new flavours to this country and a sophisticated take on foods from the southerly regions of this huge subcontinent.

The chefs have decades of experience in Indian cooking and are specialists in that which characterises the south – balancing six essential flavours and tastes in a sophisticated blend is considered traditional in a main meal.  Flavours are driven by spices such cardamom, turmeric, black pepper, chilli, cashew nuts and black lentils.
Look forward to some Indian staples introduced here by Tanjore Palace, which opens on a Sunday to Monday basis (closed Tuesday). Try Dosa, a large, tangy, thin pancake made from rice flour, eaten with chutney or masala or topped by a chicken dish.
Idly is a rice cake made of ground rice and is teamed with other foods/ chutneys, while vadai are typically served as a starter dish. Vadai are a sort of crispy fried doughnut, made of ground urid (a lentil) and again, dressed by other savoury foods.
Less dairy is used in this choice of cooking and more coconut milk, dried beans and pickles; the meats favoured are lamb and chicken, with plenty of fish and vegetarian options.
You can of course choose from mainstream Indian favourites such as biriyani, curries and other familiar dishes. Cooked to order, you can choose the intensity of spicy flavouring and staffs are personable, gracious and effective.
