The Limerick School of Art and Design Fashion Show, in association with AIB, will take place at UCH on Thursday May 14 at 8.00pm. The LSAD show is unlike any other, as it shows unique and totally individual fashion design work. It’s a ‘once off’ opportunity to see this range of diverse creativity and is an event that always attracts a lot of interest from fashion followers in the Mid West.
As usual, this high profile event should attract a capacity audience, all supporting the 47 young designers that will be showing their fashion collections. This year the 21 graduate collections have a huge diversity of inspirations from the 80s film ‘Short Circuit 2’ to the work of the famous sculptor Bernini. All students have produced a range of work that is contemporary, exciting and wearable.
The 2009 graduates have successfully completed excellent work placements, of at least eight weeks, and the impact of this ‘real life’ fashion experience shows through in the professionalism of their own work. Students have had placements with internationally famous fashion companies, such as Vivenne Westwood, Hardy Aimes and Preen in London, Sharon Wauchob, in Paris and Dublin based design duo Quinn and Donnelly as well as internships all over the world, working in exotic locations such as Tokyo, Japan to Mumbai, India. This year LSAD is delighted to be working in association with AIB who will be launching ‘The AIB Business Development Award’ which will provide the winner with a substantial cash prize of 2,500euro. In addition, the winner will have an advisory panel of experts to work with for one-year to help them set-up a business/kick-start their career in the fashion industry. An AIB business specialist will form part of the expert panel.
Two other prizes will be given on the night: The Miriam Mone Commerative award of 100euro for the collection that shows a sense of excellence in tailoring and a fashion style that has a contemporary, timeless elegance; and The Bulmers Light Collection award of 1000euro for the most exciting use of fabric in a fourth year collection.
It’s always a night not to be missed! Tickets are 30euro for adults, 15euro for students, and are available online at www.uch.ie.
