ARMED Gardai carried out searches to around 40 houses as part of the ongoing investigations into criminal activity in the city.
The planned searches took place yesterday on Limerick’s south side and were led by Assistant Commissioner Kevin Ludlow. The raids come exactly three weeks after father-of-two Roy Collins was gunned down at the Roxboro shopping centre.
The 35-year-old’s murder and the ensuing threats to members of his family last week have led to public outrage throughout the city. Gardaí have received mounting pressure to address the problems associated with criminal gangs.
Yesterday’s searches were not directly linked to the ongoing murder investigation, although it was conducted by detectives attached to Roxboro Garda station along with members of the Limerick divisional search team including a number of state support units and the Garda helicopter.
The search focused on houses and open ground areas in the Ballinacurra Weston area of the city.
It is understood there were no arrests made during the operation.
