Gardening Classes at Ballymaloe Cookery School.
Sarah Raven, who is the expert on all things to grow, cut and eat from your garden, is coming to the Ballymaloe Cookery School to teach two gardening classes. On Thursday 16th April she will be hosting a course called ‘The Cutting Garden’. She will explain how to prepare, plant, maintain and harvest buckets of flowers from March through to November.
She will talk about spring-sown hardy annuals, like scabious and sweet peas, and half-hardy annuals like cosmos and zinnias.
On Friday 17th April she will be hosting a course called ‘Year Round Vegetables’. This is all about ensuring that you can eat your home-grown produce not just between June and September, but for all twelve months of the year. It is aimed at those with some experience of growing – though this isn’t vital. Sarah will cover successional sowing, how to design a year-round sowing plan, the system of plant rotation, harvesting, pest control and ornamental plants to make your productive patch look as good as the rest of the garden. In the afternoon she will also reveal which varieties she finds most successful herself. Both of Sarah’s courses are all day, include lunch, and are 185 each. Ballymaloe Cookery School are offering Slow Food members a 25% discount making them €138.75 each. See www.cookingisfun.ie.
