“WOMEN’S Voices… Women’s Stories…” is the title of a celebratory event organised by County Limerick Arts Office to mark International Women’s Day on Sunday March 8.
Taking place in Newcastle West Library, there is an open invitation at 3pm to join “what promises to be a real celebration of women’s creativity and endeavour”.
An eclectic line up of female performers and artists based in the Mid West will provide an interesting and involving afternoon for all concerned, and admission is free.
“This year we are marking International Women’s Day on the Sunday 8 with an event that promises to be enjoyable, stimulating and humorous,” says librarian Aileen Dillane. “Women’s Voices… Women’s Stories will be an afternoon of poetry, song and story featuring singer Noirin Ni Riain, poet Eileen Sheehan and Cora Fenton of Call Back Theatre Company”.
Crazy for Gershwin
CRAZY for Gershwin is the latest theme for the Savoy Sessions series at Limerick Marriott, the March cabaret taking place on Saturday March 14, 9pm.
According to Bare Space Theatre Company, Savoy Session will feature the songbook of one of the brother’s George and Ira Gershwin. Taking to the microphones for the Crazy for Gershwin night will be two of Limerick’s finest exports, Jennifer McGann, gracing stages in Dublin to excellent reviews, and the London-based Paul McGowan. He is performing in a series of West End productions.
Limerick performer Judy O’Connor will join Jennifer and Paul in the Liszt Lounge of this Henry Street Hotel and Bryan Meehan is the pianist.
Musical numbers on the night will include classics as ‘Summertime, ‘I Got Rhythm’, ‘Someone To Watch Over Me’, ‘Fascinating Rhythm’, ‘Love is Here To Stay’ and many more.

MORE on Fresh Film Festival 2009, running at Belltable@36 Cecil Street from Tuesday March 24 to Saturday 28, with multiple screenings.
This year’s new International Award adds to the experience of Irish Young Filmmakers as they are now afforded the opportunity to have their work screened alongside that of their peers across the globe.
The 60 second shot award is specialised and will be judged at two levels. Professionals from RTÉ young People’s Broadcasting will first make a shortlist from the entries to the category and the shortlisted films will be screened on TTV on RTE Two.
The winner of the award will finally be ascertained from the results of a vote by young viewers of TTV.
Regional heat screenings will be run in Limerick, Galway and Dublin in March where the short films will be screened. Admission is free but pre-booking is advised.
The Limerick Heat will take place on Tuesday March 10 in Daghda, the Galway heat on March 11 in Nun’s Island and the Leinster and Dublin heats will take place on March 12 in the IFI.
