LIMERICK householders who are interested in cutting heating bill are being urged to apply for a new Government insulation scheme by local TD Niall Collins.
100 million euro has been set aside to provide grants to people who are looking to make their homes more energy efficient, reducing energy use and helping them to keep their homes warmer.
The grants will be provided under two different schemes. The Home Energy Saving Scheme is for private, middle income homes and will provide funding for people to install roof insulation, cavity wall insulation, internal wall insulation, external wall insulation, high efficiency boiler plus heating control upgrade and a heating control upgrade.
The Warmer Homes Scheme is part of the Low Income Housing Programme and is aimed at those on low incomes or a social welfare allowance. This programme provides for the install of energy efficiency measures in low income and local authority housing through community based organisations. Energy efficiency improvements include upgrading the fabric of the building with attic insulation, cavity wall insulation, draught proofing and providing lagging jackets.
“It’s estimated that by putting in place the right energy efficiency measures the average household can save up to 700 euro a year on their heating bills,” said Deputy Niall Collins. “That is a considerable amount of money and it really emphasises the benefits that can be secured by taking part in these schemes.
“Not only will you receive a grant to help install these insulation measures but the fact is that it will also reduce you electricity, gas and heating bills every year. It’s a win, win for everyone. By insulating our homes we’re also protecting the environment and reducing our carbon emissions, which is something that everyone should be encouraging.”
