Munster will not play the likes of the Lions, the Cheetahs, the Bulls or the Sharks according to the latest blast of news received to the Limerick Post sports team from South Africa Rugby.
News in from the South African Rugby board slams the European link to the Magners link. Here’s what they had to say in a release this Tuesday. SA Rugby acting managing director Andy Marinos emphatically quashed rumours that South African rugby was contemplating ending its involvement in Vodacom Super 14 to join the European-based Magners League.
ย
โThere is not a jot of truth in this speculation and we wouldnโt normally even bother responding to such a story,โ said Marinos. โBut as it has now grown via the internet from speculation from one source in Australasia to a real possibility in websites across Europe we thought rugby supporters would like the record put straight.
ย
โSo let me put it quite plainly: we have had no informal or formal discussions with the Magners League โ or any European-based leagues for that matter โ about deserting our SANZAR partners and playing in a northern hemisphere-based tournament. And nor do we have any plans to hold such discussions.
ย
โWe remain committed to SANZAR and are taking a full part in discussions looking at the possible expansion of the tournament โ a desire we share with our Australian and New Zealand partners. SANZARโs tournaments are vibrant, hugely popular with our supporters of the very highest rugby quality and remain central to our forward planning.โ
