IT has emerged that nine out of every 10 primary schoolgoers in Limerick have been provided with a place in their first choice of second level school.
Seamus Twomey, director of the Limerick Education Centre, revealed that less than 0.5% of the 1,700 children seeking placement had been unsuccessful in gaining entry to a school of their choice.
However, all applicants were given an option, even if it was not one of the nine schools on their list.
He added that 40 additional paces remained within the system that no-one had yet requested.
The system of applying for a second-level school in Limerick was set up four years ago after up to 75 children, some from disadvantaged areas, were left without school places.
