Planning applications go online

THOSE wanting to know what developments are going on around them are facilitated by Limerick City Council, who, from this week, will make all planning applications available on line.

The new system allows anyone with internet access to view details of planning applications and associated documents such as application forms, drawings and decision notices.

Speaking at the announcement of the new facility, John Field, director of services for the Planning Department, said Limerick City Council is committed to developing its on-line services.

“Up to now members of the public had to physically come into City Hall to view a planning file,” Mr Field explained.

“With this new system, a planning file will be uploaded within seven days of an application being received by Limerick City Council and ready to view on-line, which makes it more convenient and straightforward for members of the public to view from their own computers”.

Members of the public can view planning documents and drawings on-line by logging on to Limerick City Council’s website, www.limerickcity.ie and following a link from the On-Line Services option on the homepage.

By clicking “View Planning Applications On-Line”, the public can find a planning application through a planning file reference number, the applicant name or the development address.

They can also view planning application lists through a listing of received applicants, decision due applicants or decisions made applicants.

“The new service is fast and easy to access and most importantly, user friendly,” Mr Field continued. “The files will be updated daily and I’m confident that it will make the planning process ultimately more efficient”.
