We’re just getting back into the swing of things for new year’s food news, but let me give you the info on Slow Food Limerick and region’s latest venture and first event of the new year encompassing all the nutritional needs of young babies and toddlers.
WHAT – Slow Food for Babies & Toddlers Mothers and fathers mark your calendars!
WHERE – Hunt Museum
WHEN – Sunday February 1st at 3 pm
WHY – Healthy Food for babies will explore the Slow Food options available to young babies and toddlers, with a strong focus on local, fresh produce. The nutritional requirements of babies and toddlers and what effect food has on the child’s developments will be the central issues looked at.
Slow Food is best described as “good, clean and fair food”. That means it is all about taking the time out with friends or family to enjoy ‘good’ food that is tasty and made from ‘good’ ingredients i.e. fresh, seasonal and local if possible. It is all about ‘clean’ food meaning that it is not harmful to your health or to the environment. And it is about ‘fair’ food, in that all those working with food produce get a fair price for their work and produce.
The speakers are Julie Dargan, a nutritionist for over 20 years, who will discuss the nutritional requirements of babies from 3months to 3 years and how these can be met by local, seasonal produce and Marianne Murphy, who will explore issues around healthy eating and child development.
The event is free and will take place in the Hunt Museum at 3pm – 4.30pm on Sunday February 1st and all are welcome.
This event is kindly sponsored by the Hunt Museum.
