MOTOR tax dodgers have been warned…the garda traffic corp is on your tail.
New hi-tech surveillance equipment that can identify fast moving registration plates at the rate of five per second have been fitted to upwards of 70 squad cars, and more are expected on the road during the month of January.
The devices, which have been installed, can readily record the registrations of every passing vehicle, even on multi-lane motorways, and signal cases where the vehicle is untaxed.
They can also provide notification if a car is speeding, has been reported stolen or is wanted by gardai in connection with a crime.
The garda authorities have deployed a number of ROBOT mobile speed detection units to tackle speeding. The specially fitted Ford Transit vans have infrared cameras on board and can be used day and night.
Figures just released indicate there were 173,251 speeding detection last year.
