In the post match interviews, following Munster showing their “get out of jail card” in defeating Clermont in the Heineken Cup pool match at Thomond Park, Tony McGahan was eased to saying that he’s delighted to see the back of them and can now move into the Christams period delighted that the pool stage tussles with Clermont Auvergne are now in the past.
McGahan was quite clear in saying that they were they best technical side that he had analysed and the passion and fire that they played with was evident – so much so that the panic was close to setting in as the stadium clock was winding towards the end of the game.
Nonetheless, the win came with tries from David Wallace, Marcus Horan and an exuberant Niall Ronan. O’Gara added a handfull of points from place kicks despite missing the odd kick.
No news yet as to whether there will be citings for any of the Munster players in the aftermath of the brawl that broke out after just 18 minutes of the game that saw Jamie Cudumore leave the field on a red card and Paul O’Connell take a time out for 10 minutes following his involvement.
Magners league games against Connacht and Ulster will dominate the Munster vision as they ease into Christmas perched on top of pool one in the Heineken Cup.
