TWO local film producers were celebrating until the cows came home after scooping a much-coveted IFTA for short film Calf.

Ronan Cassidy, from Raheen, and Gregory Burrowes, from Parteen, County Clare, were like the cow jumping over the moon when Calf was named Best Live Action Short Film at the IFTA ceremony held in Dublin on Saturday last (April 20).

The film, written and directed by Jamie O’Rourke, was shot in Kildimo and funded by Screen Ireland and Virgin Media. It tells the story of a sinister farm accident which leaves protagonist Cáit with a terrible decision to make.

Speaking after the ceremony, held last Saturday at the Convention Centre Dublin, Ronan said that the experience has ‘been a bit of a whirlwind but we are really proud to bring the IFTA home to Limerick”.

“This film was very much a Limerick production as we shot here and most of the crew were from the Mid West. We are really dedicated to building film talent here and to win on the night feels like an amazing achievement.”
