Limerick older people’s groups benefit from grant funding

Athlunkard Boat Club is one of Limerick clubs to benefit from the latest round of sports funding.

FUNDING of €13,820 has been allocated to 54 groups in Limerick under the Age and Opportunity Scheme, which provides significant funding for sport and physical activity amongst older people.

The grant scheme is a combined initiative from Age and Opportunity and Sport Ireland.  The beneficiaries range from active retirement groups, ICAs, men’s and women’s sheds, physical activity leaders, care settings and other sports and social groups.

The successful Limerick groups include: Adare Active Retirement, Adare Men’s Shed, ARA na Féile (Abbeyfeale), Ardagh ICA, Askeaton-Ballysteen ICA, Athlunkard Boat Club, Broadford ICA, Brothers of Charity Services Limerick, Caherdavin and District Actively Retired.

Caherdavin and District Men’s Shed, Cappagh Handball Club, Cappamore Good2go Hub, Cappamore ICA, Castleconnell Active Social Group, Castlemahon ICA, Crecora ICA, Croom Community Development Association, Croom Family Resource Centre, and Doon and District Men’s Shed were also among the groups who received funding.

Also supported were Doon ICA, Dooradoyle Raheen Men’s Shed, Drombanna ICA, Family Carers Ireland Limerick, Glenbrohane Community Association, Glenroe Ballyorgan Active Group, Grange ICA, Hospital Family Resource Centre, ICA Castleconnell, ICA Guild Castletroy.

Iniscara Day Center, Irish Wheelchair Association Limerick, Kilcornan Active, Knocklong ARA, Lansdowne Active Retirement Association, Limerick Mental Health Association, Limerick Sports Partnership, and Limerick Strand Probus Group will also get award funding.

Munster Academy Of Dance, Murroe Marian Social Club, Northside Family Resource Centre, Oola GAA/LGFA Healthy Clubs, Our Lady of Lourdes Golden Girls Group, Pallasgreen Ladies Club, Patrickswell ARA, Raheen  ARA, Rathkeale Men’s Shed, Shannon Dragons, Southill Dining Club, St Brigids and St Patricks ARA, St Johns Senior Citizens Club, St Michaels DCC CLG, and West Limerick Resources CLG, will also receive funds under the scheme.
