A documentary on Limerick’s metal festival Siege of Limerick is online now. The Siege of Limerick is a bi-annual metal fest held in Dolan’s, Dock Road on the Easter and Hallowe’en bank holiday weekends. Already running for eight years, ‘Siege’ has attracted hundreds of quality metal touring acts for a day-long, access all areas, free to the public metal festival.
It has a reputation for being one of the best festivals for Irish and international metal bands to showcase their sound, and attracts an audience from across the country. Run from Limerick on a non profit basis by hardworking collective Bad Reputation Ireland, Siege manages to host a line-up of over 40 bands – with no admission fee.
The documentary features contributions from organisers Tall John and Ciaran Culhane and Ciaran Ryan, MIC Lecturer and founder of Out on a Limb record company and of course, fans attending.
The Siege is a solid crowd puller for these metal fans, for the touring bands who get to meet with their community and anyone who likes a day out with good people and the loudest soundtrack.
The documentary on the successful underground event is produced by 4th Year Media students in Mary Immaculate College and was written and directed by Gerard O’Reilly
The opening scenes of the documentary feature King John’s Castle which was the location of the original Siege of Limerick in 1690. With the castle now being used for outdoor concerts with state of the art production values, is it time for this underground and growing metal community and concert promoters and Shannon Heritage to join the dots and explore the possibility of hosting a metal festival on a grander scale?
