REPORTS of a large flash of light over Limerick and echoes of a loud bang are understood to be connected to a “major fault” that resulted in over 2000 homes temporarily losing electricity this Friday night.

Around 400 homes remain without power as ESBnetwork crews look to repair the faults.

Moments before the incident occurred, locals on the south side of the city reported seeing a large flash across the city skyline which was quickly followed by a loud bang.

More than 2,100 homes in Rosbrien, Roxboro and Ballyneety were left in darkness as a result of the fault but it is estimated that all affected homes will have power restored overnight.

ESB Networks say that they are working on the lines and are urging customers to follow powercheck.ie for updates and details.
